Our Genesis class is like the Hyundai of Chiropractic work stations. They get you from here to there without a lot of bells and whistles. Our Genesis class was developed for start up Chiropractors. Still Chiropractic specific systems ( not modified kitchen or office cabinetry) but this line of systems strips the systems down into more of a utilitarian line.
Our Growth and efficiency class is what we began with back in the 80’s It focused on placing the most needed items directly at the staffs fingertips. Think of these like a Toyota or Lexus. These were designed and built to increase the growth of a practice as well as improve the productivity and Efficiency of your team.
Our Radiance class has the same great function as the 2 prior lines but is more rounded and “Spa Like”
Look at these systems as the Mercedes of Davlen products. Sweeping curves and improved flow ( possibly these can be looked at as more of an exotic sports car instead.
Our Quantum class offers the same rounded flow, but adds a vertical element , complimenting more of a modern approach.

I am going to elaborate on that question by highlighting another statement we always here:
“You don’t need Davlen, we can do what they do”.
They are not lying, Lets set things straight. You don’t need Davlen. Anyone can design or build you a Chiropractic office. The question is what are you getting at the end?
Please look at it this way. Most of my clients are looking to race the Indy 500 of Chiropractic and most are left driving a Volkswagen. They get around the track but they can’t play at the level that they want to play. We can develop a Corvette, a Ferrari or an Indy race car, depending upon your goals. We can also provide you with a Bicycle that turns into a Corvette that can expand into a race car when your practice evolves into your dreams.
Are you getting a pretty office for you to work within, or are you getting an office that was developed specifically around your clinical and business guidelines that make you efficient in caring for your patients and being profitable in your business? You only need us if you want the ability to see more patients in less space, with less stress and with lower overhead.
The real answer is that you probably want us to assist you. I am sure you are thinking that the cost of Davlen is going to be added to the cost of an architect because there is a duplication of service. There should be no duplication of services so there should be no additional cost to you. I say this boldly because an architect or contractor knows nothing about the clinical or business guidelines that you follow. Nor do they understand how what you do SHOULD impact how the clinic is developed.

The real issue of why the architect or contractor is trying to convince you that Davlen is not needed is that their budget should be lowered by all of the work that they will not have to do, nor are they qualified to do. This then reduces their profit margins. That’s the real reason that they say you do not need someone like Davlen.
Think of this. In order for you to get the most out of your project, everyone should do what they do best. You should focus on caring for your patients and building your practice. That is what you do and know best. The architect knows the structure and codes better than anyone. That is what they know and do best. I guarantee that they know nothing about the daily activities of you or your CA’s. I guarantee that they know nothing about the different treatment techniques that you can use and how little space they need. I guarantee they have no clue about how one EMR software functions differently than another one, nor how much space specific techniques or equipment is needed. If you want to profit from doing more in less, Its not how much space does something need, but how little space can something still function properly in. This is what can save you significantly in lowered overhead. Davlens expertise and experience is knowing (sometimes better than their clients) the most efficient ways that Chiropractors handle certain clinical and business issues.
To sum this up, here is a quick test you can use. The next time someone represents to you that they can build or design a Chiropractic office, first ask them how many they have completed thus far. Secondly, ask them what the minimum space needed for a hi low and say nothing more. You and I are thinking adjusting table, they are scratching their head wondering what you need a fork lift for. SO it’s the age old question of what do you need or what do you want?

Am I better off with a design build firm?
The allure of a design / build firm is that they do everything for you. This also means that they make many of the decisions about how much money you spend without you knowing the options. While this may sound intriguing, it usually cost the Chiropractor more, a lot more, tens and sometimes, hundreds of thousands more. SO if you have unlimited funds, you may want to go that path.

When Davlen designs an office, it revolves around solutions that are of value to you regardless of the profit margins of the contractor. During a remodel, we will save as much of the original structure as possible. We do not believe in tearing something down if the added expense provides you with nothing more than an empty wallet. In the beginning, Davlen actually started as a full service company and quickly realized that profiting from both ends is not a fair exchange to the profession, My profession. The workplace is flooded with inexpensive contractors that can carry out unique concepts that help you achieve your goals. The net result is tremendous savings to you.
More importantly, Design / build firms cannot have as much knowledge and understanding about your needs and about the solutions to your needs than we do. As a matter of fact NO ONE has as much experience as we do developing Chiropractic offices. This is not to impress you, but to impress upon you that we look out for you. The designs we provide are unique to our company, and while others try to copy our concepts, they rarely understand the purpose behind our solutions. No design firm can hold a stick to our experience or our dedication having you invest into elements that have value to you and your goals, both personally and professionally.
For instance, I have reviewed countless bids and analyzed intensive “Scopes of work” developed by Design build firms only to see that they include elements that have no inherent value to the Chiropractor. I will be more than glad to review numerous case studies in which we have saved tens of thousands of dollars for the doctor.
A word of caution:
If you chose to go the route of a design / build firm, as the designers start discussing your choices and bring you different choices, do yourself a favor and at that very moment, ask them “how much will one choice cost over the next. For instance, lets assume you are suggested to upgrade your lighting to LED’s. While it may sound like a great way to save in your energy bill, and while it may make you feel good going “Green” its important that you know how much, or even an educated guess as to how much something is before you fall in love with it. All to often you have to make choices which are included in a scope of work, then plans are drawn around those elements, permits are drawn and bids go out only to come back being 6 figures more than you were expecting, but to go back and change, to a lesser cost option, you have to incur more architectural fees, you have to redo the MEP’s , have new construction documents prepared and amend your permit to only find out information that you should have been made aware of months earlier.
For instance, before you get seduced with the fact that LED’s generate less heat and cost a fraction to run, find out if it is going to be a $2,000 upgrade or a $22,000 upgrade. Anyone in the business should be able to give you an educated guess. Also find out WHO GETS THE TAX CREDIT. If you don’t ask, it ends up in their pocket. If they can’t give you an educated guess, they are probably hiding something.
How can I get to see more pictures of your work?
Asking to see pictures of our work is like asking to see a picture of a car. Our systems provide solutions that vary greatly based on the clients desires and vision. Just like purchasing a car, if you are thinking “Hyundai” and I am thinking “Mercedes”, the picture you see does not help anyone. If you are thinking “2 seat Smart Car” and I show you an 8 passenger SUV, again it helps no one. HOWEVER…
We have over 5,000 Chiropractic offices that we have served in one form or another and we have thousands of photos of what we have done for them. While we make some pictures available to the public, we are extremely protective of our clients and their business concepts, philosophies and details that make them successful. Therefore, based on an understanding I can not offer pictures to the general public of offices that other clients have paid for. I protect the unique and proprietary nature of their business, just as I will hold any of our discussions to the highest level of confidentiality to protect you. Sure, most of my clients will have no issues having discussions and showing off their offices, but I will only reveal the specifics of the designs of furnishings on a one on one basis with you and before I do, I will ensure that that neither of you are in close proximity to each other, minimizing the potential creation of conflicts of interest. In some cases, I will even request authorization from one client if I believe that there are similarities and like mindedness before I allow others to see too far into a practice.
Furthermore, during our process, since we have thousands of possible paths and photos we can pursue, as I listen to your likes and dislikes, I maneuver through the myriad of choices to show you only what you positively respond to you, minimizing the amount of time you have to spend. Once we begin work together, we will actually produce a gallery of information that you will have unlimited access to so you can compare at your leisure.
Can I see more of your designs?
The answer to that question is yes, however, due to the proprietary nature of our solutions, and the fact that other clients have paid us to create something for them, We have agreed that we will not make available to the general public any designs of other clients without specific approval. HOWEVER, we will gladly pour through the thousands of designs with you of offices that have solutions that may assist you during our consultations together.
Over the past 28 years, we have never been able to replicate any design and layout. Locations differ, size differs, Geometry differs, even the demographics and Psychographics of your community differ. Most importantly, YOU differ from anyone else that we have served. SO why would you want to have an office that is the same as someone elses. Even for my clients that have multiple, franchise style offices, I have never been able to duplicate a layout.
As we work together, and I understand more of what you are looking to achieve, we can dig through our database of designs and show you what others have done. While I takes a little more work on our part, Our process simplifies our ability to custom tailor your design to your uniqueness. Our pricing structure allows you to explore different concepts without costing you more.
During this process, I tune into our discussions and propose concepts that you may never have thought about before. If a concept that we propose still doesn’t feel right, I can put you in touch with other clients that had exactly the same requirements as you have so you can ask the consumer directly.
How do your prices compare to that of a local contractor?
The answer to this question lies in how you compare. A Mercedes is more expensive than a Hyundai, although both are cars, both have an engine, seats, tires, brakes and both can get you from here to there. Will one car cost more or less than another? The difference lies in the “scope” of features and the benefits each will provide to you. Can someone else do what we do for less? Absolutely NOT.
If you are just looking for a desk, with all due respect, get a cheap desk from anywhere, we are probably not right for you.
While you can get a cup of coffee anywhere, which one do you prefer? You can find a rusty dirty old pot over a campfire, or you can ensure consistent and predictable results and go to a Starbucks?
Besides the taste and quality of the product, what message do each provide to the consumer before they take the first sip? Since you are in your own business, who would you rather be in business with?
If you are looking for a system that will help you and your team be able to do more in less time and in less space, we become the cheapest guys around. In true apples to apples comparisons, since we mass produce our systems, we have to be far less expensive than someone that has to design, test, fabricate, refine and build an exact replica of what we do. Unfortunately, with them, you become the test dummy (no disrespect) Can they build a desk cheaper, I am sure they can, as a matter of fact, I am sure Davlen can as well, but a cheaper desk is not why over 5,000 Chiropractors have come to us over the past 30 years. Due to the modular flexibility of our systems, you can add to, rearrange and relocate our systems for the rest of your career. This means that the Davlen system that you invest in today will never have to be purchased again. So the next time you move, not having to purchase another desk makes our systems free. Multiply that by 4,5 or 6 moves that you make and you can see that an investment into a Davlen system can easily save you 4-5 times the cost of that cheaper desk from someone else. So is a cheap desk really cheaper?
If you own your own building and have no intention of moving, the ability to relocate may not be as important, however, your needs will change over the years and when they do, you don’t have to throw the entire system away and start over. Think about the changes that have happened recently with the implementation of EMR alone and you will realize what I mean. Speaking about EMR, instead of you having to worry about how to best utilize the myriad of systems and software out there, our team has studied directly with the Software suppliers and understand, direct from the horse’s mouth, how they intend the systems to function and how they were designed to be used. Having Davlen on your side is like getting a jump start, which surely will save you money.
We have numerous examples in which case 2 CA’s were needed prior to our arrival and once the Davlen systems were in place, either only one ca was needed, or the doctor was able to greatly expand their volume and services without expanding the amount of payroll required, lowering the cost per patient visit. Either way, everyone wins. Just because its cheaper, doesn’t make it better. Are you looking to treat the symptom or the cause of your Front desk issues? Low back pain can be relieved with a pain medication. Its quicker and cheaper, but is that right? How much will it cost?
Before anyone can determine cost, details and magnitude of a project must be developed into a Scope of work. As experts in our field, with unprecedented experience of over 5,000 Chiropractors being served over the past 28 years, our knowledge and understanding of what helps Chiropractors be more successful becomes invaluable. While we understand that we may not be for everyone, there is also a preconceived notion that hiring an expert in Chiropractic will cost more. In reality, when looking at the overall picture of construction costs and renting less space than originally expected should be significantly less than if we were not used. Once you add in the lowered overhead found in reduced rent and reduced payroll ( cost per patient visit) plus add in the ability to relocate our modular systems, we typically save you thousands less in the first 3 months of operating. Once compounded over a 5 or 10 year lease term, we could be talking about savings well into the 6 figures. As a matter of fact, we regularly lecture to students in Chiropractic college on how they can save $250,000 in the first 5 years of practice.

I like the way your desks function but I really want Granite or Marble on my desk, can you help me?
Can we , the answer is YES, Should we is the real question. While we can and have used granite, marble, glass and solid surface materials on our systems, many of our clients realize that the added expense incurred with the addition of these luxury materials does not outweigh the restrictions that they impose on the development, design and operating efficiency of you and your staff. We will gladly expand upon this when we talk. Furthermore, the answer to the question of “Should you” lies more in the demographics and expectations of your patients. I have had several doctors invest into luxury materials only to find out that patients reaction was far from their expectation. Instead of elevating their patients view on Chiropractic, it made patients of moderate income begin to question value and prompted patients to say ( Sure, look at how much money the doctor is making for that 4 minute adjustment … ) One of the benefits Davlen has is that we have on staff CA’s that have worked in the trenches and have to fight your fight. So in my opinion, unless every patient that enters your doors have Granite or marble in their homes and they expect that, I would lean towards materials that mimic the exotics. The best part is that the material suppliers we use have really stepped up their game. Unless you are 2 feet away from the newer materials, many of the materials look like the real thing. What are my color choices?
There are thousands of different colors available from several suppliers that we use. You can mix and match them to your taste giving you thousands, of variations to compliment your taste. We simplify your color selection by allowing you to tap into what others have previously done before. Decorating a Chiropractic office SHOULD be different than decorating either a home or any other profession. You could use the decorator that did a great job in your home to select colors and materials, but many times they are designing to meet your taste, not that of the community that you draw your patient base from. Since we have over 5,000 Chiropractors, we have a huge data base of decorating path that other doctors have paid their designers to come up with. When we work together, we will actually create a gallery that you will have access to so you can narrow down your choices. Where do you get your products from, Who is your supplier ??
We are proud to say that we are 100% designed and manufactured in our own state-of-the-art factory here in North Carolina, USA. For over 28 years, we have dedicated our lives and our business to your profession. (Be sure to read our Company story elsewhere on the site so you understand why we do what we do. )
Actually, due to our reputation and reliability clients from all over the USA hire us to assist them with their facility development needs. We are also imported by Chiropractors from different countries from around the world. Here is a client (that we never met face to face) that hired us to design their office (that we never visited in person) that we had to fabricate unique work stations (needs vary in Spain). We packed them up, put them in a container, which was loaded onto a ship which traveled across the ocean, were put together by the doctors handi-man (who didn’t speak English) and the doctor was so happy, that they referred numerous friends to us.

How long do your products last?
As you may already know, Davlen began business back in the mid 80”s when Jeanne, our CFO was a CA in a 2 car garage next to the home of the Chiropractor that she worked for. Much of the desks that we built for our clients back in the 80’s are still in existence today. Thanks to the modular flexibility, the original office Jeanne worked for was able to relocate several times. As a matter of fact, most of the original desk remains although it has been added to and shaped differently from that of the original. We design and build our systems to last a lifetime. We realize that if you are going to spend a little more to have work stations tailored to the specific tasks of a doctor or their CA, it does not make financial sense to have to throw them away every time you move or expand. Think of our systems as being malleable, able to bend and sway with the changing needs of the times, your goals and your values. From a business standpoint, you are investing into an asset, not a capital improvement. We use only the highest grades of materials and hardware to support this concept.
Anyone that has slammed the door on a high priced luxury automobile knows how weight and structure of a product resonate with quality and durability. When you compare that with the tin can sound of a lesser vehicle, you know what I mean. For comparison, if you ever found a front desk that you thought would work for you and compared their shipping weight of 3-400 pounds, Davlen units of comparable size and shape typically weigh in at over 1,000. We overbuild our systems to last you geometrically longer. As to their longevity, we have hundreds of offices that are more than 20 years old and still look as good as they did the day they were delivered.
Being in the business for almost 30 years it is inevitable to hear about the unfortunate catastrophes that have happened to certain clinics such as floods and earthquakes. As a testament to our commitment of building products that last, we have had cars, (yes more than one,) crash through the front of buildings, in one case taking out the front structure of the building pushing the front desk back almost 4 feet and leaving the vehicle totaled but the desk with only minor issues. Luckily, the damaged module was able to be removed and a new module replaced.
In a second situation, this car forgot to turn at the end of the road and smashed through the side of a building and into one of our portable Tbars, moving it 8’. With only a few nicks in the laminate of an easily replaceable panel repairs were made in a matter of minutes. You cant make this stuff up. Rumor even has it that the 3 offices in the New York area that were washed into the New York Harbor during hurricane Sandy are still floating around as a hazard to navigation … Just kidding…
Do I need to do an entire office or can you help me with specific areas?
While we can assist you with developing an entire office, after our review, most of our clients find out that they can achieve their intended growth and operating efficiency with only a slight remodel, costing only a fraction of what a move or expansion would have cost them. We can improve the Professionalism, Efficiency and Productivity of individual rooms or spaces in the clinic, or produce individual work stations for equipment like EMR, Retail products or Diagnostic stations
What sets Davlen apart from using a local architect or designer or contractor?
In the early 80’s a young newlywed was hired as a Chiropractic Assistant by one of the fastest growing Chiropractors in New York. Together, they attended practice building seminars presented by the professions top management consultants. They would commit to making the necessary changes as suggested by their consultants, only to find that their working environment was prohibiting there growth. They went to seminars yearning to “Race The Indianapolis 500 of Chiropractic” but were left driving an old Volkswagen Beetle. While able to get around the track, they were never able to serve their patients at the higher level that they were being taught. The young CA suggested that her husband, then a contractor, could perhaps, with her guidance and knowledge of the profession, build the ultimate chiropractic working environment.
Shortly after the remodel was complete the young CA gave birth to her first child. It was not long after that her son was stricken with an illness that baffled the Medical community. After months of tests, the cause of this life threatening illness was eventually found. The medical model told her and her husband that time was short and that there wasn’t much hope. Along with their friend, her boss, their Chiropractor, they fought on and after 18 months of intense obstacles, Chiropractic saved his life. That was the moment that she and her husband knew that they had to give back to the profession that had given so much to them.
This sounds like a typical Chiropractic story but this is the true life story of Jeanne and Glen David, co founders of Davlen.
Their first thought was to become chiropractors themselves so they can help hundreds of patients themselves. They quickly realized that rather than becoming Chiropractors, they could use their unique talent and insight to help other Chiropractors grow their practice. Their vision was to create beautiful, highly efficient working environments so their clients would be able to attract, convert and educate more patients. By helping hundreds of other Chiropractors grow their practices, they would ensure that Chiropractic would be available for hundreds, if not thousands of additional young families striving to live a healthy lifestyle.
